Plastics Booming in Piqua

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Plastics are booming in Piqua. As several of the biggest players in the industry continue to call the city home, the high-performing group of local corporations continues to grow. Everything from plastic liners and bags to car seats and big helmets can be traced back to a handful of manufacturing floors in the Miami County community.

These plastics companies employ hundreds of workers in the city, and have been industry stalwarts, during a time when manufacturing has struggled across the U.S. And with an uptick to the economy, these companies look poised for even more growth.

Justin Sommer, economic development director for the city of Piqua and executive director of Grow Piqua Now, said the business cluster formed for several reasons, namely infrastructure advantages. Yet they have thrived through an intense focus on process improvement.

Sommer said Piqua’s proximity to both Interstates 70 and 75 gives customers and suppliers across the globe the ability to leverage multiple facilities within a day’s drive.

“Piqua has really become an integral piece of the supply chain,” Sommer said.
