Education

Education is an integral part of any community. In Piqua, it is at the heart of the community. As a result, Piqua excels in providing quality education and workforce development to its residents and businesses. The community boasts an "educational complex" offering a central location for the City's Junior High School, High School, Upper Valley Career Center and Edison State Community College.


Piqua City Schools

The Piqua City School District organized in 1853 and incorporated in 1908, serves an area of approximately 55 square miles in Miami County, comprised of the City of Piqua and Washington and Spring Creek Townships. The district's facilities serve 3,700 students in the following buildings: one kindergarten/preschool center, three primary schools (grades 1-3), three intermediate schools (grades 4-6), one junior high (grades 7 and 8) and one high school (grades 9-12). The district also has a bus garage, an administrative building and several athletic complexes. The city's schools employ a staff of 370 individuals comprising teachers, administrators and support staff. With a graduation rate of over 93%, the district has consistently met or exceeded state report card criteria. In addition to innovative offerings like the World Languages Programs, the district is preparing students for life-long learning.

Piqua Catholic Schools

Piqua Catholic Schools are proud to be fully accredited by the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association offering rigorous academics, faith formation and character building in a supportive and nuturing enviornment for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Individual attention and a low student-teacher ratio promote academic excellence within a Christ centered community. Standardized test scores consistently rank above the national averages in math, science, language arts and social studies.

Lehman Catholic High School

Lehman Catholic High School is the only Catholic high school north of Dayton in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Accredited by the North Central Association of College and Schools and the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association, Lehman Catholic High School serves students from six counties (Auglaize, Darke, Logan, Mercer, Miami and Shelby). Lehman Catholic High School students often rank in the top five of the twenty-one Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati on standardizes test results, and often finish first on the Assessment of Catholic Religious Education (ACRE). In addition, our students often lead the surrounding public schools when comparing ACT, SAT and Ohio Graduation Exam results.

Upper Valley Career Center

The Upper Valley Career Center is located in Piqua, Ohio. In addition to the main campus, there are several Adult Division facilities which include a Technology Center and the Garbry Conference and Learning Center also located in Piqua along with the Ohio Stouder Center located in Troy.

The High School Division serves approximately 900 students in twenty-nine career-technical programs offered at the main campus. In addition, the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School offers satellite programs in fourteen associate schools.  These satellite programs serve many thousands of students in grades nine through twelve. Each year, the Adult Division offers the latest high-tech training to thousands of customers throughout the region, including the innovative Alternative Energy and Green Systems Management program.

Edison State Community College

For more than thirty-seven years, Edison Community College has been a springboard for getting ahead for thousands of West Central Ohio citizens. Edison's value is flourishing as a learning center for area residents pursuing university transfer, career preparation, workforce education and community life.

Edison is committed to providing learning opportunities to fit the needs of our communities. Edison offers more than thirty two-year Associate's Degrees designed to transfer to four-year colleges or to launch a professional career. In addition, the Business and Industry Center at Edison can provide non-credit training and workshops for area industries.
