Downtown Piqua

Like many small communities, an important part of the Piqua experience involves the City's downtown area.  The community has committed significant resources over the past decade to make our downtown the centerpiece of the community.

Formed in 1993 to lead downtown Piqua's renaissance, Mainstreet Piqua has helped create a vibrant downtown enviornment by promoting it's unique buildings and heritage. Since it's formation, the organization has worked with the City of Piqua to undertake several improvement projects, including downtown streetscape improvements, the construction of Linear Park and the restoration of the Fort Piqua Plaza.

These efforts were recognized nationally with the highly-coveted designation of Piqua as a Preserve America Community by First Lady Laura Bush in 2006. This designation acknowledges the community's tireless efforts to preserve important historical or culturally-significant assets.

Mainstreet Piqua, Inc. organizes community efforts to create an attractive, viable downtown environment and promotes the downtown's unique historical assets using the National Main Street Center's Four Point Approach:  Organization, Design, Promotion and Economic Development.

  • Organization: building consensus and cooperation among public and private groups and individuals, and identifying sources of funding for revitalization activities.
  • Design: enhancing the commerical district's physical appearance through building rehabilitation, compatible new construction, public improvemetns and design management systems.
  • Promotion: marketing the commerical district through events and advertising to attract customers, potential investors, new businesses, residents and visitors.
  • Economic Development: strengthening the district's economic base and creating new opportunities through careful analysis and appropriate mixed-use development

Mainstreet Piqua, Inc. is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization, the funding of which is contributed on an annual basis from the City of Piqua and it's businesses and citizens. This is a sixteen member Board of Trustees representing the community and downtown Piqua on issues that directly affect the commerical core with its goal to maintain and grow an economically-viable downtown.
