In 2000, the population density was 1,939.2 persons per square mile. There were 8,886 housing units at an average density of 830.9 units per square mile. This density is illustrated by Map 2.1, which was produced by the US Census based on the year 2000 population data. The City is predominately built out. Densities may increase if infill growth is encouraged by the City.  However, if growth trends remain consistent with the density of new areas growing on the fringe of the City, Piqua is likely to become larger and less dense.
